This event has passed.
Thanks to everyone who has entered and volunteered for the Lake Macquarie Derby this Sunday. We have a huge contingent of 15 crews entered, which is an awesome turnout!
With the large number of crews, each crew will race four times with points and handicaps allocated based on placings. The handicaps are cumulative, and the crew with the most points at the end of four races will win the top prize of $400.
- First place will be awarded 3 points and a 5 second handicap for the next race.
- Second place will be awarded 2 points and a 3 second handicap for the next race.
- Third place will be awarded 1 point and no handicap for the next race.
If we have a tie at the end of racing, there will be a row off for first prize and bragging rights.
There will be a competitors briefing at 8:10am to go over the rules and the course, and then racing begins at 8:30am. The draw and list of crews can be found below.
Boats and oars will be supplied by Lake Macquarie Rowing Club, and crews are spread across all of the boats to make it fair. So all you need to bring is some water, socks, sunscreen and a healthy amount of competitive spirit. We will have boat marshals looking after the boats and helping you in and out of the correct quads, just remember your crew number from the draw and they’ll pop you in the right one.
Snacks and drinks will be provided to competitors throughout the morning, and prizes will be awarded after racing, along with lunch upstairs at the rowing shed. It would be great if everyone competing could chip in to wash the boats and oars, pop them back in the shed and help out with tinnies and tents before heading upstairs to lunch. Thanks!
